Tips for Winter Travel in the United States

As the temperature falls, if you’re planning a trip to the United States it is worth considering some cold weather tips to help you make the most of your trip. If this is your first trip to one of the United States ‘ winter destinations, make sure you are prepared and you have visitor medical insurance. Visitors from hot climates such as India or South Asia may need to consider how they will acclimatize to the cold.

If you’re traveling to a ski area or winter sports region, pack sufficient warm clothing and shoes to protect yourself from the elements. Check which fabrics are best for avoiding frostbite, chill and wind.

If you are hiring a car, make sure the car is equipped with a winter emergency pack containing extra water, blankets, a snow shovel and food. Make sure you are covered with emergency breakdown assistance from the hire company and a good visitor health insurance plan.

Of course, depending on where you travel you will be more or less affected by snow and ice. If you’re heading to Florida, you’re not likely to need those winter layers. But if your destination is snow and ice, make sure you are prepared.
